Week 39: April 23-29, 2019 Sons of Thunder

Hey Everyone,                                                                               April 29, 2019

"and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:  "  -Mark 3:17
This week was a blast we have so much success finding new people to teach. We truly have been blessed by the power of prayer and study.

On Tuesday the bishop called us up and told us we needed to go visit this hermana that is inactive because she has a 10 year old son that wants to be baptized. We gladly accepted and drove with him for 30 minutes to the house of the said sister. On the way there it began to pour something that rarely happens here in Actopan. When we got to the house they invited us in and we soon became thrusted into their life story. This sisters name is Judith and she has a 13 year old daughter, Daisy, and 10 year old son, Isaac. The Hermana began to tell me of her family from the UnitedStates and how she became inactive. It first started with her marriage, she had begun to have problems with her husband one year into her marriage, but they continued together until five or seven years ago they were divorced. At the time, Judith was the President of the Relief society, seeing other couples at church, holding hands, hugging and with their families broke her heart, it was something God had blessed her with, but she no longer had. This caused her to anger with God blaming him for the divorce, she decided that God did not exist.  Her husband moved to the United States and so did she to stay close to her family. Unable to find work in California she decided to move to Canada with her youngest two children. Wanting to visit her oldest son, a few months later she tried to cross the border, illegally, upon crossing she was caught by the authorities. She was separated from her children and they were put into foster care, she was taken to the prison and was put in isolation. Unable to speak English, separated five days from her children, in isolation she received a notice that her children had been sexually abused while they had been separated and would be moved to another Foster home. From one poor decision, her life was in pieces, she began to sob, and heart broken, crushed, she turned to her Heavenly Father and pleaded for his help, she asked for a Book of Mormon but the prison had none. They gave her a bible where she was able to find comfort. After being moved from prison to prison after 5 months, through many miracles and through the power of prayer Judith was able to be reunited with her children and was sent back with them to Mexico. Although it required a severe trial, Judith finally came back to church this past Sunday after 6 years of being inactive. Let us never forget our Heavenly Father, and even when we do remember that He is there for us. Remember that He loves us and wants us to follow Him. After this my companion and I testified to her of the love that God has for us. The spirit was strong in the room. While I was inviting her to come back to church and feel His peace, thunder boomed, Lightning struck the house and sparks flew out of TV. The bishop and my companion teased me saying that I spoke with the power of God. Although I don’t think I caused the lighting, I do know that this gospel of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He loves us and will never forget us. His arms are open, come to Him.
On another note, We were able to help a single mother and her son to be able to receive a testimony of the restored gospel through the book of Mormon. When we asked if they believed the book of Mormon to be true they both testified to me with the sincerest yes, I have ever heard on the mission. The spirit truly testified to them of the truth and testified to us, Emilliano now has a date for his baptism this Saturday. It is simply so amazing that an 11 year old can feel such powerful feelings from God and decide to follow His Son´s example.
Love you all, sorry I don’t have much time today for much more!!!
“Come follow me” -Savior
Love,
Elder Snow

Week 38: April 16-22, 2019 ACTOPAN

 Hey Everyone,                                                                                     April 22, 2019

So, I am now in Actopan with my new companion Elder Vasques from Oaxaca Mexico. Actopan is a city of some 70,000 people and is super HOT. It is a lot like my first area in terms of climate but now it is summer. (My first area Guerrero is in the same stake as Actopan) The weather has been averaging around 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Somedays I feel like I just melt haha. Here in Actopan is famous for its AMAZING barbacoa which is truly delicious. In the mornings and nights it gets down to the high 50's which is pretty nice. Also, there are 3 companionships, six elders, working here in Actopan which is pretty fun!

The previous companionship in this area didn´t leave us very much work so we have been hitting the streets a ton looking for people to teach about our very Christ centered message of the restored gospel. Somedays, to be honest, have been more than a little discouraging, nevertheless, we have continued to work hard to wards inviting others to come unto Christ! This past week we had a particularly hard day with a lot of rejections, after our companionship study, my companion and I put ourselves to prayer, God knows we needed to. We prayed for his Guidance and help because we truly want to work and fulfill our purpose as missionaries. After this sincere prayer, we were able to have three unscheduled lessons in a 2 hour period and since then received over 16 references from the members. The power of prayer is truly astounding. Let us all come closer to God by getting on our knees and pleading for his divine help. He is there. Ask for his guidance, and it will be known unto you.

On Sunday night we went with the bishop to visit some menos activos from the ward. His daughter also came along with us. While we were talking with the family, the daughter got up turned towards me and began to vomit. Oh my, all of my pants and brand new socks that my mom sent got soaked. Honestly, I was just sad about the socks, but it was definitely an interesting experience. I jumped back and she ran out side to vomit more. She was super embarrassed, so to help her feel better, I told her about my experience here in Mexico with the food, that you all know and love haha. It was gross but definitely make the family not forget about us. For the record I am not the only one that has gotten sick from Mexican cuisine. HAHA
Well that was my week! LOVE YOU ALL!

Love Elder Snow.
